Young African American males, especially those in Wards 7 and 8, are frequently neglected and seemingly go unnoticed unless they are involved in some menacing behavior,” Green said. “However, I am very appreciative of Aummett Paige and the work that her organization does to make an investment in the lives of the young men in our community. They deserve it.”
“I admire all that Paige does in this community,” said Boatwright. “She’s a mentor to me. If it’s anything that the children or adults need, she’s only one phone call away. My daughter passed away, and my grandson needed an outlet, and she rolled down my street and gave that to him. I’m forever grateful for her.”
“While servicing Ms. Paige and gaining a better understanding of her organization I was inspired by her passion for community service and determination to make a difference with the youth of Anacostia,” says Lyle. “She is really putting her feet on the ground.”
Meanwhile, let me say that I think Aummett Paige has been an unsung hero here East of the River, in Washington, DC. I met her about 6 years ago, and she has been unwavering in her attempt to support young boys in and around Anacostia. She has created a football program and other sporting and physical activities for young kids in Anacostia, seemingly out of nothing. I was so impressed by her determination to support the young people in our community that I have allowed her to stage some of her community events here at Bread for the City's Southeast Center. She has held 2 or 3 Community days over the past few years at our facility located at 1640 Marion Barry Ave., SE (formerly Good Hope Road, SE). So I'm a great fan of Aummett's and plan to lend all of the support I and Bread for the City can to support her in the good she is doing in our community.”
